What is Google? According to Wikipedia, Google is “an
American multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related
services and products. These include online advertising technologies, search,
cloud computing, and software. Most of its profits are derived from AdWorks,
an online advertising service that places advertising near the list of search
results.” Who on earth would gladly admit
not to know Google? Quite a very few percentage of the 7 billion people living
on our beloved blue planet! In fact, Google is now so ubiquitous that some
funny theories stipulating that Google might be God are being vulgarized.
But this is utterly understandable. This company has confirmed
undoubtedly its leadership in IT technologies such as Fiber, the Revolutionizing
driverless car technology or more recently Floating
Data Centers. Yes, Floating Data Centers!!! So BREATHTAKING…., isn’t it? Google is actually in
the final chapter of building a four-story tall data center on a ship in San
Francisco Bay, cooled with seawater and powered continuously and renewably by
the ocean currents. This formerly secretive project has been named “By And Large”,
a play on the Buy N large corporation in the Pixar Movie Wall E.
If we keep in mind that the total amount of energy dedicated to data
centers is reaching 2% of the total domestic energy usage, we can say that Google
is once again, demonstrating leadership by building this data center which is
not only ecological, but also movable. In other words, this data center could
be moved wherever needed without any outage, any problem. Actually this data
center might be in my opinion, the world most Resilient
Data Center!
